To Read or Not to Read

Jennifer Schuessler of the New York Times once said of a boring book she critiqued, “After all, if it weren’t for all the boring books in the world, why would anyone feel the need to try to write more interesting ones?”

Certainly, it’s best to know what you’re getting into when you pick up a book with a nice cover. You smooth your hands over the cover, read the jacket flap, read the reviews, flip the pages through your fingers a bit, stick your nose in around page 234 or 235 to sniff it out, to see if the book is right for you. Well, even if all of those factors point to yes, this looks like a pleasant read, you still want to read a review or two, to see if the both of you are compatible. And that’s what this page is for. Each book I read will have a short and sweet review here, to see if it’s worth reading.
